Trying to do a masters degree after you have a job is especially challenging. Main thing which gets affected is your personal life. When you are working environment is very stressful, then you find it really hard to spend some time for your family. Five days of your week will be consumed by your job and you will really need some rest and have to work on your masters degree on Saturdays and Sundays. If your are a single, and if you don't have any other commitments (like girl friend) you won't find much of a difference. But if you are married and have children, you should really think at least four times before joining for masters .
I know lot of people take online masters degree program, but unfortunately none of those degrees are recognized by most of the employers including the government. Then what is the use in taking those degree ? I suspect most of the time it is merely to put in the marriage invite :). If that's the real reason, then you can go ahead with your "online" masters degree. Especially here at U.S, it is very expensive to get an online Masters degree. Me and my wife searched for a good institution, and heck, they are trying to rip off $16K per semester.. Really??
I know some of you growling, saying that, this will be the future class room, blah blah.. Before you guys step in to that argument, I would like to remind that, we are not quite there yet. May be some of the online colleges are really doing a good job, but because of these phonies, everyone look bad.
Conclusion:
Don't take the silly online part time masters. If you are adamant in getting masters, prepare sincerely and get in to a really good institution, even if it happens to be a part time or a week end course.
